2026 Spring Season Wrap-Up
Throughout March and April, we welcomed 95 participants to Mountain T.O.P. to serve on multiple home repair projects. From children to college students to older adults, all our participants helped us move the needle on substandard housing in our community.
Over the course of several weekends our volunteers worked a total of 1,030 hours. The Independent Sector values volunteer labor in Tennessee at $30.55 per hour. Therefore, the value of our volunteer labor this spring was $31,466.50.
“We talked about the financial impact of the project which really helped me contextualize the work we were doing and made me feel content in providing affordable housing for this community.”
“I was able to actually be hands-on and visually see the people I’m assisting. I also enjoyed the moments where we talked with the family. I could tell they were happy about having company and seeing them get a new ramp.”
Consistent through all of our work is a desire to create healthier and safer environments for our homeowners. A leaking sink or toilet can soften floors, cause rot, and lead to a hole. The homeowner whose bathroom is shown below returned home from the hospital with a walker after a serious medical episode. His current toilet was too short and too close to the vanity, and was leaking. Mountain T.O.P. volunteers replaced the toilet with one that is ADA-compliant and easier for a person with a walker to use. A new and smaller vanity makes it easier for this homeowner to use the toilet with a walker.
A new set of safe steps can make a world of difference! Vital repairs like these can reduce trips, falls, and visits to the urgent care or even the emergency room.
